COMMON LANGUAGE® Information Services:
Request for Requirements

At the request of our 100+ customer-base, the Telcordia Common Language team is expanding on partnerships with BSS/OSS vendors to increase the value we deliver to our mutual customers.

Common Language Information Services provide our customers, systems integrators and OSS/BSS partners with a single, well defined and meaningful information infrastructure. This information infrastructure provides a clean, accurate and consistent source of key data elements that are critical to service providers’ business. This enables customers to realize significant automation and flow-through. This information service is implemented as active registries and the associated services that include consultation as well as the evolution, creation, management and distribution of the data across the Telecom industry.

Common Language Information Services enable its customers to:

  • Effectively communicate with trading partners, equipment suppliers and other service providers leveraging consistent information that is critical to their business.
  • Promote an integrated information flow within their environment and across their internal systems and organizations.
  • Seamlessly collaborate with trading partners to develop converged service offerings and to interconnect.
  • Integrate both BSS and OSS systems in a cost effective manner to automate the efficient delivery of services.

The following value propositions are representative of the kind of value Common Language customers can achieve when fully utilizing the Information Services within the OSSs and BSSs that support their business processes:

  • Improved flow-through and mechanization among OSSs, reducing data conversion efforts by 7.5%.
  • A 5-15% reduction in spare equipment.
  • A 75-90% reduction in time for manual asset recording during inventory, audit, or equipment deployment.
  • Up to 90% redeployment of resources allocated to administer equipment item reference data across all operation support systems.

The Common Language Ecosystem

In order to support efficient integration with BSS/OSS vendors, the Common Language team is issuing requirements documents. Our intention is to provide:
  • The industry with a better understanding of what it means to support Common Language Information Services.
  • Our customers with a set of well thought out requirements that they can include in any RFx process that they may initiate.
  • Systems integrators with an understanding of how they can leverage Common Language Information Services to simplify and reduce the cost of integration across best-of-breed and customized software.
