Telcordia® COMMON LANGUAGE® Equipment Information Service

A consistent, meaningful and unique method of identifying equipment, its capabilities and its classifications.

Our Common Language Equipment Information Service gives service providers an ongoing and vendor-independent equipment identification solution that constantly evolves as technology evolves. It solves the need for consistency in the way that service providers identify their equipment and related capabilities in their systems.

Our Equipment Information Service can help you to:

  • Reduce investment in spare equipment up to 15% through enhancing card substitution rates by tracking interchangeability
  • Redeploy up to 90% of resources currently allocated to administer equipment item reference data across all OSS
  • Clearly identify equipment regardless of method (human, scanner, machine)
  • Reduce new service and repair order failures by providing clear equipment identification to resolve field problems and streamline field operations
  • Drive OSS flow-through in support of zero-touch operations
  • Provide one authoritative, central source of clean equipment reference data within the enterprise and the industry
  • Streamline processes to identify, order, receive and place network equipment while ensuring equipment data integrity

The equipment Information Service provides a valuable service to clarify the identification of equipment between service providers and their equipment suppliers. The Equipment Information Service provides a universal, consistent, meaningful and unique method of identifying equipment, its capabilities and classifications which is not specific to one equipment or OSS vendor. In addition, our equipment experts support defining a service provider’s equipment-naming standards and providing an ever-growing equipment catalogue that is tied to the product marking (the CLEI Code labels).

This Equipment Information Service is the only equipment identification solution that:

  • Is vendor-neutral and globally unique
  • Is tied to a proven product marking solution
  • Facilitates human, scanner and machine identification (equipment MIB)
  • Includes an Equipment Registry that provides the industry with a central source of equipment reference data
  • Covers multiple business process disciplines (e.g. procurement, warehouse management, network inventory, maintenance, repair, retirement and financial asset tracking)

Our Equipment Information Service classifies, categorizes, codes and normalizes attributes for up to 20,000 equipment items a year. It is supported by a team of equipment coding experts who specialize in the understanding of equipment and how it will be identified and modeled in a service provider’s OSSs for network inventory, asset tracking, financial and procurement systems. The CLEI Codes we create are passed back to the equipment vendor for creation and application of CLEI Code bar code labels BEFORE the equipment is delivered. The service providers can use this capability for scanning and visual identification of equipment and the instant assessment of equipment interchangeability.

The Equipment Information Service provides Catalogue and Reference Data information addressing a broad array of telecommunications technologies manufactured by over 1,000 equipment suppliers, and an inventory of over 450,000 CLEI Codes. Information provided as part of this managed service can be used to populate BSS/OSS administrative and reference information, where it will streamline the introduction of new devices and enable improved automation between systems that previously held proprietary views of equipment components.

All of the Common Language Information Services provide information via data registries, which make available large lists of published data that is relevant to a broad range of operators. Also provided is reference data, which provides a dictionary or coding guide that forms the basis for coding and interpreting the information stored in Common Language catalogues and your systems in a meaningful and consistent manner.
