Telcordia® COMMON LANGUAGE® Equipment Information Service
A comprehensive and consistent method for the identification, description and classification of network equipment.
The Common Language Equipment Information Service provides the industry with an up-to-date Network Element Provider-independent equipment identification solution that evolves with technology. Critical information is provided to Telcordia by the Network Element Providers themselves in accordance with strict documented standards. One or two dimensional barcodes along with human readable identifiers(CLEI™ Code) are placed on equipment and the Common Language Identifier can be burned directly into the equipment MIB (Management Information Block) by the manufacturers in accordance with ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) recommendations.
Today, the Common Language Equipment Registry includes critical equipment information for over 450,000 equipment components manufactured by more than 1,000 Network Element Providers. The Common Language Equipment Information service simplifies the complex array of equipment data which Service Providers need to collect and manage everyday if they are to effectively procure equipment, manage and report on assets, provision, activate and assure network capacity and customer services.
While network equipment is the very foundation of any Service Provider's business, too often equipment identification and attributing is accomplished on a system-by-system basis. As a result, the level of granularity, naming and attributing is inconsistent reducing productivity levels and driving up integration costs.
The Common Language Equipment Information Service can help you to:
- Reduce investment in spare equipment up to 15 percent by tracking and leveraging card interchangeability
- Reduce by up to 90 percent of the resources needed to administer equipment data across all OSS/BSS
- Reduce new service and repair order failures by providing clear equipment identification
- Integrate your ERP, BSS and OSS processes and improving system automation in support of zero-touch operations
- Provide one authoritative, central source of accurate equipment reference data as provided by equipment providers and normalized by Telcordia
- Streamline processes to identify, order, receive and deploy network equipment
The Equipment Information Service provides a single equipment identification model that can be used by Service Providers and all of their equipment suppliers, and is the only equipment identification solution that:
- Is vendor-neutral with globally unique equipment identifiers
- Is tied to a proven product-identification and marking solution
- Facilitates human, scanner and machine identification (equipment identifier on the faceplate and in the MIB)
- Includes a Global Equipment Registry that provides the industry with a central source of reliable equipment data
- Provides a web-based graphical user interface and API's enabling "swivel-chair" or automated system interactions
- Supports multiple business process disciplines (e.g. procurement, warehouse management, network inventory & provisioning, auto-discovery, maintenance, repair, retirement and financial asset tracking)
The Common Language Equipment Information Service classifies, categorizes, codes and normalizes attributes for as many as 20,000 new equipment items per year. The coding and management of new equipment information is supported by a team of equipment coding experts who specialize in the understanding of telecommunications equipment and how it will be identified and modeled in a Service Provider’s systems. Equipment suppliers around the globe support our efforts. In fact, the CLEI Codes we create are passed back to the equipment vendors for creation and application of CLEI Code bar code labels BEFORE the equipment is delivered, aiding in scanning, visual identification and auto-discovery of equipment and attributes - as well as helping to populate your administrative databases accurately.
All of the Common Language Information Services provide information via globally accessible, hosted registries, which make large volumes of complex, mission critical data available to Service Providers, Network Element Providers and Equipment Resellers. For each of the Common Language Information Services, Telcordia provides a dictionary which forms the basis for naming and interpreting the information stored in the Common Language registries and your systems in a meaningful and consistent manner.
