(LocateIt® System):
Retail and Mail-Order Industries

Here are two of the many ways in which the LocateIt System can help retail and mail-order operations:

Determining Sales-Tax Jurisdiction
A national manufacturer and retailer of electronic equipment collects 25% of its revenue from its quarterly mail-order catalogs. The detailed billing must show state, county and local sales tax included, because each may be applicable, depending on the place of delivery and installation.

The Sales Tax department is responsible for identifying each county and municipality that imposes a sales tax, and determining the applicable tax rate. To accomplish this, Jason has modified his billing system so that it can interface with the LocateIt System.

As the bill for purchases is computed, the LocateIt system supplies the county name (see example) and determines whether the delivery address is within the city limits of the local taxing jurisdiction (see example). This ensures that the retailer's customers are only charged sales tax when appropriate, and the process takes place without disrupting bill processing or mailing.

Creating Accurate Door-to-Door Directions
A large furniture company in the southeastern U.S. takes client orders in person and over the phone. Once a certain level of orders within a given geographical area has been reached, home deliveries can then be scheduled.

In the past, the company found that its directions were usually clear as to the general location of a customer's home, but drivers would sometimes get lost or have to stop at gas stations or diners for help. And such delays tended to create angry, dissatisfied customers.

Now this company uses the LocateIt System and life has gotten easier for all concerned. If a driver is having difficulty finding a house, he calls the dispatcher with his current location. The dispatcher, in turn, uses the LocateIt System to display a map of the immediate area (see example) and plot out "last-mile" directions for the driver.
